MUMBAI – Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. crushed 9.92 million tonnes of sugarcane in the 2024-25 (Oct-Sept) sugar season, down 1.8% on year, it said in a press release on Tuesday. The mill concluded sugarcane crushing operations for the ongoing season on Sunday, it said.
During the previous sugar season, Balrampur Chini Mills had crushed 10.1 million tonnes of sugarcane. Lower output in major producing states such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh led to the decline in crushing this season.
The mill has diverted 10.7% of sugarcane syrup this sugar season for the production of ethanol, higher than 3.7% in the 2023-24 sugar season. Sugarcane diverted towards B-heavy route molasses was 51.4%, against 53.8% in the previous season, according to the release. Sugarcane diverted towards C-heavy molasses fell to 37.9% this season from 42.6%, it said.
Net sugar production after the diversion of B-heavy molasses and sugar syrup for the production of ethanol was 924,000 tonnes, against 1.06 million tonnes a year ago, according to the release. Net sugar recovery was 9.32%, against 10.46% in the previous year, while sugar recovery on a gross basis before any diversion was 11.28%, against 11.72% last season.
