IMD forecasts heatwave in central India, northwest plains till Monday

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of east Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha till Monday. The department has also forecast heatwaves in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic west Bengal, and Jharkhand from Wednesday to Monday.
Warm night conditions are likely over east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday, over parts of Bihar and Odisha till Friday, and over Gangetic West Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday, the weather bureau said. The bureau has also forecast hot and humid weather over Konkan and Goa till Wednesday, over Jharkhand and Gujarat till Thursday, over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema till Saturday, and over central Maharashtra and Marathwada from Wednesday to Friday.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh till Sunday, while heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Wednesday and Friday, the weather agency said. Thunder squall with speeds of 50-60 km per hour is likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the next seven days, and over east India during from Saturday to Monday, the agency said.
A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next five days and no significant change is seen in the subsequent two days, the department said. In central India, maximum temperatures could rise by 2 degrees Celsius in the next two days and no significant change is seen in the subsequent five days, it said.
The weather agency expects maximum temperatures in Gujarat to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, after which no significant change is seen in the subsequent four days. In east India, maximum temperatures could gradually rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius in the next three days, after which no significant changes are seen in the subsequent two days, and then a fall by 3-4 degrees is likely in the subsequent two days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country, the weather department said. End
