Sitharaman discusses invest opportunities in India with US business leaders

NEW DELHI – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, currently on an official visit to the US, met pension fund managers and other institutional investors and suggested investment oportunities in India in areas of energy and sustainability, the finance ministry said in a post on X.
She also suggested investment in the INR-1-trillion corpus to boost private investment in sunrise technologies announced in the Interim Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) and also in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT-City. The INR-1-trillion corpus has been set up with 50-year interest-free loan and will provide long-term financing or refinancing with long tenors and low or nil interest rates, she had said while announcing the scheme.
In the meeting in the US, Sitharaman took feedback on the reforms undertaken by the government and the existing policies. The fund managers spoke about their "keen interest and commitment for a deeper and broad-based investment collaboration between the US and India and shared feedback on how to further facilitate and enhance the investment experience," the ministry said.
Besides this investor roundtable, Sitharaman also met chiefs of many US-headquartered companies and spoke about the potential investment and collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, education and healthcare. End
