IMD sees heat wave in central India till Fri; red, orange alert in most parts

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heat wave conditions over central India till Friday and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab from Tuesday to Saturday, it said in a release Monday. Nights are very likely to be warm in parts of Bihar from Wednesday, and continue to be so till Saturday, it said.
The weather bureau has issued red and orange alerts for heat wave in most parts of the country. Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema till Friday and over Marathawada in Maharashtra till Thursday. Similar weather conditions are seen over Bihar and Jharkhand from Tuesday to Thursday, the department said.
Widespread moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is seen over northeast India during the next seven days. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya till Saturday, the agency said. Similar weather is seen over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Wednesday, it said.
Heavy rainfall in Kerala and Mahe Monday could provide some respite from the heat in the southern state. End
