NEW DELHI – The external affairs ministry Thursday expressed confidence about US Vice President J.D. Vance's official visit to India starting Monday. The visit will give a further boost to the bilateral ties between the two countries, the ministry said. Vance will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said all the bilateral issues between India and the US will be discussed in the meeting between Vance and Modi. India and the US share a comprehensive global strategic partnership.

"US Vice President J.D. Vance is coming to India. He will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All the bilateral issues between India and US will be discussed during the meeting. Vance's visit will give further boost to our bilateral ties," Jaiswal said during the foreign ministry's weekly media briefing. Vance will be accompanied by his wife Usha Vance, their children, and senior members of the US administration. The US vice president, who is on his first visit to India, is scheduled to visit Jaipur and Agra before departing for Washington, D.C. on Apr. 24.

According to the foreign ministry, Vance's visit will provide an opportunity to India and the US to review the progress in bilateral relations and implementation of the outcomes of the India-US Joint Statement issued on Feb. 13 during PM Modi's visit to the US. Both the countries had agreed to negotiate on a Bilateral Trade Agreement during his visit in February.

During the briefing, Jaiswal said the Indian side is in constant touch with the US government to resolve the issue of reciprocal tariffs.

On Apr. 2, US President Donald Trump announced 26% discounted reciprocal tariffs on India. However, he subsequently declared a 90-day pause on the implementation of the duties. The 26% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods, will now come into effect on Jul. 9. These tariffs could affect growth of Indian exports as the US is India's top export market with a share of over 15% in total exports. According to the US Trade Representative, India exported goods worth $87.4 billion to the US in 2024 and had a trade surplus of $45.7 billion. End
