India got 21% above normal rain at 10.4 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 10.4 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 21% above the normal of 8.6 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Three homogeneous regions of the country got higher than normal rainfall, while one region got deficient rain during the week, the weather bureau said.
Central India saw 145% above-normal rainfall during the week at 4.7 millimetres. Odisha received 255% above-normal rainfall at 22.3 millimetres, while Chhattisgarh got 140% higher rain at 6.2 millimetres.
Rainfall in south peninsular India was 67% higher during the week at 13.4 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 6% above normal during the week at 26.3 millimetres. Northwest India received 15% below-normal rainfall at 6.5 millimetres during the week, the agency said.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'deficient' in four and 'large deficient' in seven during the week. Rainfall was 'large excess' in 17 subdivisions and 'excess' in five. Three subdivisions received normal rain during the week.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 37.6 millimetres of rainfall, 23% below the normal of 48.8 millimetres for the period. End
