IMD warns of severe heatwave, warm nights over parts of Rajasthan this week

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for severe heatwave and warm night over parts of Rajasthan this week. It also expects heatwave over parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan this week and warm nights in pockets of west Madhya Pradesh.
While a heatwave is declared when the actual maximum temperature is 45 degrees Celsius or more, a severe heatwave is when the temperature is 47 degrees Celsius or higher.
A gradual rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is likely over northwest India in next four days, with a gradual fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days. The weather bureau said a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over interior Maharashtra is likely during the next five days and no significant change is expected in the subsequent two days.
A gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is also likely over Gujarat in the next two-three days and then a gradual fall of 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent four days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over other parts of the country.
The weather bureau said an intense western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from Tuesday till Sunday. Isolated hailstorm with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speed of 40-50 km per hour is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the weeksend. Heavy rainfall is also seen over parts of these places during the weekend and over parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation and trough, the weather department sees thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour over northeast and east India during the next five days.
Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Odisha and isolated hailstorm is likely over Jharkhand, Odisha, and Meghalaya on Tuesday. Heavy rain is also likely over parts of Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura during the week. End
