MUMBAI – Shares of cement companies are likely to be in a range next week ahead of their March quarter earnings. Analysts expect companies to attempt raising prices soon, which could be a positive trigger for stocks, but the same will depend on whether dealers absorb the price hike.
Demand for cement has improved in the March quarter on higher construction activity, which is also likely to help increase realisation of companies sequentially. However, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation per tonne will be lower on year as the recent price hikes will not be able to offset the negative impact of previous cuts in prices.
"...early signs of revival (in demand) are visible with April 2025 witnessing renewed demand momentum across East, North, and South India, supported by improved liquidity in the system and resumption of stalled projects," Systematix Shares and Stocks said in a report on Wednesday. "This demand resurgence is likely to provide strong volume tailwinds heading into H1FY26 (Apr-Sept)."
An analysis by Informist shows five cement companies in the Nifty 200 index are expected to report a net profit decline of 9% on year during the March quarter. Sales of these five companies may rise 12% on year, according to estimates by 10 brokerages.
