MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heatwave conditions in some parts of west Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday, and severe heatwave conditions in other parts of the same region on Wednesday and Thursday. A fresh spell of heatwaves is seen in Gujarat from Tuesday to Thursday, and over Punjab, Haryana, and east Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday, the department said.
Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Saturday, the weather bureau said.
A western disturbance and two cyclonic circulations are likely to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speed of 40-50 km per hour over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on Friday and over Uttarakhand till Saturday, the weather agency said. Similar weather conditions are also expected over northeast and adjoining east India in the next seven days, the agency said.
Under the same weather systems, the department sees isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour over west, central, and east India till Monday. The department also predicted heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Bihar, Kerala, and Mahe on Friday, over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh till Saturday, and over Assam and Meghalaya till Tuesday.
Isolated hailstorms are expected over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, and Chhattisgarh on Friday, over Uttarakhand, east Madhya Pradesh till Saturday, and over Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Duststorms are likely over parts of Rajasthan till Saturday, while thundersqualls are seen over parts of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan till Saturday, the agency said. Thundersqualls are a sudden increase in wind speed, usually reaching 50-60 km per hour.
A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km per hour is predicted over Kerala and Mahe in the next seven days, and over Lakshwadeep in the next two days. Similar weather conditions with gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, and Karnataka in the next four days. The weather bureau expects thundersqualls over some pockets of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Odisha on Friday.
A fall in maximum temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next three days, and a gradual rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent four days, the department said. In central India, temperatures are expected to fall by 2 degrees Celsius in the next three days and a gradual rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent four days.
Maximum temperatures over west India are expected to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days, after which they could gradually rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent four days. No significant temperature changes are seen over the rest of the country, the weather bureau said. End
