India gets 21% below normal rains at 6.5 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 6.5 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 21% below the normal of 8.3 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Two homogenous regions of the country got higher than normal rainfall, while other two regions got deficient rains during the week, the weather bureau said.
South peninsular India received a whopping 285% above-normal rainfall during the week at 21.9 millimetre. Rayalaseema received 485% above normal rainfall at 13.5 millimetre, while Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal got 361% higher showers at 33.6 millimetre.
Rainfall in central India was 51% higher during the week at 2.9 millimetre. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 76% below normal during the week at 5.8 mm. Northwest India received 87% below-normal rainfall at 1.1 millimetre during the week, the agency said.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'deficient' in one and 'large deficient' in 13 during the week. Rainfall was 'large excess' in 15 and 'excess' in one subdivisions. One subdivision received normal rain and five received no rain at all during the week.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 27.3 millimetres of rainfall, 32% below the normal of 40.2 millimetres for the period. End
