--Divest secy: PSUs have met FY25 capex aim

NEW DELHI - Department of Investment and Public Asset Management Secretary Arunish Chawla Wednesday said the government is confident that public sector companies will meet their capital expenditure target of INR 9.67 trillion in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), as the government is focussed on meaningful asset creation, in which PSUs also have a role to play.

They have also surpassed their target for FY25, the secretary said. According to the Department of Public Entreprises, of the INR 7.87 trillion capital spending of PSUs that the government tracks, the state-owned companies spent INR 8.07 trillion, or 102.6% of the target. The department tracks spending of companies that have a capital outlay of above INR 1 billion.

After the slow start in FY25 due to the model code of conduct ahead of the General Elections, there were doubts whether the companies will be able to meet the capital spending target. However, Chawla said that in the final quarter of FY25, the companies made an effort to improve their spending, in tandem with the government's capex thrust.  End
