IMD warns of severe heatwave in some parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday

--IMD: See severe heatwave conditions in parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday 

 

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on Wednesday, while heatwave conditions are seen over the rest of the state on Wednesday, Thursday, Monday and Tuesday. The department also predicts heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Saurashtra, and Kutch on Wednesday.

 

It expects heatwave conditions in Saurashtra and Kutch on Wednesday and in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi on Tuesday. Heatwaves are also likely in parts of west Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, and in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat till Thursday, it said.

 

Warm night conditions are expected in parts of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathawada, central Maharashtra, Saurashtra, and Kutch on Wednesday, and in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan till Thursday, the agency said. It expects hot and humid weather in Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathawada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe on Wednesday.

 

Under the influence of several weather systems, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour are likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Karnataka and central India till Friday, the agency said. Similar weather conditions are also seen over east and northeast India till Sunday, the department said.

 

The weather bureau expects hailstorms over parts of east Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, and over Jharkhand on Thursday. Heavy rainfall is predicted over parts of Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Thursday and Friday, and over Assam and Meghalaya till Friday, the agency said.

 

A western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation are likely to lead to a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kilometres per hour over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad, it said. While isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, isolated rainfall is predicted over the plains of northwest India till Friday, the weather agency said. 

 

Hailstorms are likely over Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, over Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, and over Uttarakhand till Thursday, the department said. It expects dust storms over parts of west Rajasthan till Friday, and thundersqualls over parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday and Friday. Thundersqualls are a sudden increase in wind speed, usually reaching 50-60 km per hour.

 

No significant change in maximum temperatures is seen over northwest India, Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the next 24 hours, after which a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius is likely in the subsequent three days, and a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius thereafter, the agency said. In west India, no significant change in maximum temperatures is predicted in the next 24 hours, and thereafter a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius is seen in the subsequent four-five days.  End
