Govt signs 2 commercial agreements for development of coal mines, production

MUMBAI – The government Tuesday signed two agreements for the development of coal mines and production of coal with the successful bidders of Marwatola-II and Namchik West mines, the Ministry of Coal said in a release.
The coal mine development and production agreements were signed with Singhal Business Pvt. Ltd., which had secured the Marwatola-II block, and PRA Nuravi Coal Mining Pvt. Ltd. that secured the Namchik West block, in the 11th round of commercial coal mining auctions.
The two mines together are projected to generate annual revenue of INR 1.06 billion. A capital investment of INR 550 million will be required to operationalise these mines, the release said.
"In terms of employment potential, the two blocks are expected to create around 460 direct and indirect job opportunities, contributing to the socio-economic development of their respective regions," it said.
With these additions, the Ministry of Coal has now signed coal mine development and production agreements for a total of 120 coal mines auctioned under the commercial coal mining framework. These mines represent a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity of 265.64 million tonnes per annum, with an estimated annual revenue generation of INR 373 billion and a projected investment of INR 399 billion. They are expected to provide employment to nearly 359,200 individuals across the country, the release said. End
