IMD sees severe heatwave receding from Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch by Thu

NEW DELHI - The India Meteorological Department has predicted that the severe heatwave, which is lashing parts of northwest India, will recede by Thursday. According to a statement from the department, the heatwave is likely to abate from west Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch, east Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi by Thursday and from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region by Friday. 

 

No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over northwest India, Gujarat and Maharashtra during the next 2 days. However, the maximum tempratures are likely to see a fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent four days. Central India too will see tempratures falling by 2-3 degrees Celsius after the next three days. 

 

According to the weather department, light rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Kerala as well as Karnataka on Wednesday. East and northeast India is likely to see rainfall till Saturday, it said. The weather department has also predicted hailstorm over Bihar on Wednesday.

 

The IMD also sees heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya over the next two days, and over Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. 

 

A fresh western disturbance is expected to impact the western Himalayan region starting Tuesday. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, are likely over Jammu, Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Friday, the departement said.  End
