--Govt notifies amalgamation of 26 regional rural banks into 11 from May 1 

 

NEW DELHI – The finance ministry has notified the amalgamation of several regional rural banks across the country as part of the government's 'One state, one regional rural bank' policy. According to a notification, released late Monday, 26 regional rural banks will be consolidated into 11, with effect from May 1.

 

After the amalgamation, the number of regional rural banks in the country will come down to 28 from the current 43. Each state, except Goa and Sikkim, will have one regional rural bank from May 1. The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry will also have one regional rural bank each.

 

"The authorised capital of the transferee Regional Rural Bank shall be rupees two thousand crore divided into two hundred crore number of fully-paid shares of rupees ten each," the finance ministry said. "The subscribed share capital of the transferee Regional Rural Bank shall be equal to the subscribed share capital of transferor Regional Rural Banks and, therefore, the entire subscribed share capital of the transferor Regional Rural Banks shall be deemed to have been transferred to and shall be deemed as subscribed share capital of the transferee Regional Rural Bank."
