--RBI: India Mar 28 FX reserves $665.40 bln, up $6.60 bln on week
MUMBAI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose to a near five-month high of $665.40 billion in the week ended Mar. 28, as per data from the Reserve Bank of India Friday. The reserves rose $6.60 billion on a weekly basis.
The RBI conducted a $10 billion dollar/rupee buy/sell swap auction on Mar. 24, which added to the central bank's reserves, according to market participants.
India's foreign currency assets also rose in the week ended Mar. 28. They were up $6.16 billion on week at $565.01 billion. The portion of gold in the reserves rose $519 million to $77.79 billion.
Foreign exchange reserves may rise more in the current week as the RBI is likely to have purchased dollars this week, market participants said. The central bank has purchased dollars at relatively lower dollar/rupee levels intermittently this week, which is likely to aid the reserves, dealers said. End
