Heatwaves are also expected to persist in Saurashtra, Kutch, south Haryana, and Delhi till Wednesday, the department said.
Additionally, hot and humid conditions are predicted in Gujarat until Thursday and over Konkan and Goa from Saturday to Wednesday, the weather bureau said.
Due to the influence of multiple weather systems and the confluence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, a wet spell is expected on Friday, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour to West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, and central India, according to the India Meteorological Department. Similar weather conditions are seen over south peninsular India, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, northeast India, and Maharashtra till Sunday, the agency added.
The same weather systems may lead to hailstorms over pockets of Jharkhand on Friday, over Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday, and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Sunday, the department said. Heavy rainfall is expected over isolated parts of Kerala, Mahe, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh till Sunday.
The weather department predicts a gradual rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures over many parts of northwest India in the next six days. A gradual rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is also seen over many parts of central India in the next seven days.
In Maharashtra, the bureau expects a gradual rise of 3-4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures in the next seven days. No major change in maximum temperatures is predicted over Gujarat in the next 24 hours, but they could rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent four days. The agency also does not see any significant changes in maximum temperatures over the south peninsular region in the next two days, and a rise of 2-4 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent three days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country in the next seven days. End
