India gets 75% below normal rain at 1.7 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received average rainfall of 1.7 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, a 75% deficit compared to the anormal of 6.8 millimetres for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. All four homogeneous regions in the country recorded below-normal rainfall during this period.
East and northeast India got 81% below-normal rainfall at 4.2 millimetres during the week, the data showed. Northwest India received 80% below-average rainfall at 1.4 millimetres, with rainfall recorded only in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Central India got 56% below-average rainfall at 0.6 millimetres, as per the data. Similarly, south peninsular India experienced 38% below-normal rainfall at 2.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, three regions got 'large excess' rainfall during the week, while only one received 'excess' rain, the data showed. Three regions got normal rainfall, while no subdivisions saw deficient rainfall during the week. Fourteen subdivisions received 'large deficient' rainfall and 15 did not get any rainfall, according to the data.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 20.7 millimetres of rainfall, 35% below the normal of 31.9 millimetres for the period. End
