MUMBAI – Integrated zinc, lead, and silver producer Hindustan Zinc Ltd. Wednesday reported a 4% on-year rise in mined metal production for the March quarter to 310,000 tonnes, driven by higher mined metal grades, mills recovery, and an increase in production at Agucha and Zawar mines. This was up 17% on quarter and was the highest ever quarterly mined metal production since underground transition, the company said in an exchange filing.
The company's production of saleable metal fell marginally on year to 270,000 tonnes in Jan-Mar, but was up 4% on quarter. The company's saleable metals comprise refined zinc and lead. Production of refined zinc for the quarter was 214,000 tonnes, up 5% on quarter but down 3% on year. Production of refined lead for the quarter was 56,000 tonnes, up 2% on quarter and 6% on year, the company said.
The production of saleable silver declined 7% on year to 177,000 tonnes in Jan-Mar. However, it was up 10% on a quarter-on-quarter basis. Wind power generated by the company for the quarter rose 33% sequentially and 3% on year to 63 million units.
For the financial year ended Mar. 31, the company reported mined metal production of 1.10 million tonnes driven by improved mined metal grades and mills recovery, the company said. Through better plant availability and operational parameters, the company achieved its highest ever saleable metal production of 1.05 million tonnes for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), up 2% from the previous year. For the same period, refined zinc production was at 827,000 tonnes, up 1% from the previous year and lead production was up 4% at 225,000 tonnes.
The production of saleable silver for FY25 fell 8% to 687,000 tonnes. This was due to change in mining sequence and lower silver input from SK mine in line with mine grade, the company said. Further, its wholly owned subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Alloys Pvt. Ltd. produced 10,000 tonnes of zinc alloys during FY25, contributing to an increase in the value added product segment for the company. The company's wind power generation for the previous financial year was 348 million units, down 12%.
For the December quarter, the Vedanta group company had reported a net profit of INR 26.47 billion on a revenue of INR 82.57 billion. On Wednesday, shares of the company closed at INR 460.80 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.6%. End
