MUMBAI – The government has allowed export of 130,429 tonnes rice, 114,621 tonnes atta, or wheat flour, and 67,719 tonnes sugar to the Republic of Maldives in 2025-26 under a bilateral trade agreement between the two countries, according to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on Tuesday.

 

Export of 37,537 tonnes onions, 22,589 tonnes potatoes, and 350 tonnes dal have also been permitted. The government has also allowed the export of 449 million eggs. 

 

The government has also allowed export of non-agricultural commodities such as stone aggregate and river sand up to 1.3 million tonnes each to Maldives, according to the notification. The exporter will have to obtain necessary environmental clearances from the designated nodal authority of respective state governments from where the river sand is obtained, the notification said. 

 

The export of these items to Maldives will be exempted from any existing or future restrictions or prohibitions during 2025-26, the release said. It added that the export of these commodities will be permited only from six ports – Mundra Sea port, Tuticorin Sea port, Nhava Sheva Sea port, ICD Tughlakabad, Kandla Sea port, and Visakhapatnam Sea port.  End
