India's FY25 coal output up nearly 5% at 1.05 bln tln, says coal ministry

MUMBAI – India's coal production touched 1.05 billion tonnes in the financial year 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), recording a growth of nearly 5%, the Ministry of Coal said in a release Tuesday. In FY24, the country had produced 997.83 million tonnes of coal. Coal dispatches in FY25 rose 5.3% to 1.02 billion tonnes from 973.01 million tonnes in FY24. 

 

Coal output from commercial, captive, and other entities rose 28.1% on year to 197.5 million tonnes in FY25, the release said. Coal dispatches from commercial, captive, and other entities rose 31.4% to 196.83 million tonnes, it said.

 

"This milestone highlights India's progress in ramping up domestic coal production while ensuring efficient distribution to meet growing energy demands," the ministry said.  End
