--Sitharaman: Released INR 1.46 tln as capex loans to states as of Mar 26

--Sitharaman: Approved INR 1.54 tln as capex loans to states for FY25

NEW DELHI – Beating revised Budget projections, the Centre released INR 1.46 trillion to states as 50-year interest-free loans under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure as of Wednesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Tuesday. The Centre has also approved loans to the tune of INR 1.54 trillion for states' under this scheme, higher than the original Budget estimate of INR 1.50 trillion for the financial year ended Monday, she told the Rajya Sabha.

The Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) had earlier projected the outlay for these 50-year interest-free loans to states at INR 1.50 trillion, however, in the Budget for FY26, the outlay was revised down to INR 1.25 trillion.

Informist had reported on Jan. 23 that the government was making an effort to accelerate disbursement under the scheme and even tweaked the conditions for the release of funds to facilitate the same. A senior finance ministry official had told Informist that the Centre was fairly confident that the entire amount will be released to states by the end of FY25.

Launched in the Budget for FY22, the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment is in line with the government's thrust on capital expenditure to drive economic growth.  End
