NEW DELHI – Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India and efforts are under way to prepare for the president's visit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday. "...President Vladimir Putin accepted the invitation he received from India's Prime Minister. Efforts to prepare for the President's visit to the Republic of India are underway," Lavrov said during his address to an international conference titled 'Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda' at Moscow.
The Russian foreign minister, however, didn't give the dates of Putin's visit to India. This would be Putin's first visit to India after the Russia-Ukraine war broke out in February 2022.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Russia for two days in July 2024. During the visit, both the countries decided to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030. In 2024, the bilateral trade exceeded $60 billion, which was an all-time high in terms of our relations in their present-day form, Lavrov said.
He praised Indian diplomacy for following an independent, multi-directional foreign policy. "It is our belief that India has every right to be viewed as a major power in today's world and one of the most influential centres in the multipolar world order. We share India's foreign policy concept with its slogan The world is one family," Lavrov said.
He expressed gratitude for India's balanced approach to the Ukraine crisis at all times and called for settling it through dialogue and by addressing its root causes. End
