India gets 32% below normal rain at 4.9 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received an average rainfall of 4.9 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 32% below the normal of 7.2 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two recorded above-average rainfall and two below-normal rainfall during the period.
East and northeast India received 28% below-average rain at 11.5 millimetres for the week, according to the data. Northwest India got 97% below normal rainfall at 0.3 millimetres, with no rainfall in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Central India got a whopping 321% above-average rainfall at 4.6 millimetres against the normal of 1.1 millimetres, the data showed. Similarly, south peninsular India received 79% above-normal rainfall at 7.3 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 11 regions got 'large excess' rainfall during the week, while two regions had 'excess' rain, according to the data. Two regions got normal rainfall, while eight subdivisions saw deficient rainfall during the week. Eight subdivisions got 'large deficient' rainfall and five did not get any rainfall, the data showed.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 19.0 millimetres of rainfall, 24% below the normal of 25.1 millimetres for the period. End
