Global Feb alumina output down 10.3% on month, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell 10.3% on month to 11.54 million tonnes in February, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. However, alumina output was up 1.5% from 11.37 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
The average daily global alumina production fell to 412,100 tonnes in February from the revised 415,200 tonnes in January, the data showed. Alumina production in China was 6.86 million tonnes in February, down 9.7% on month. The country's output, which accounted for over 59% of global alumina production, was up 6.6% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output fell to 1.35 million tonnes in February from 1.54 million tonnes in January. In Africa and Asia excluding China, alumina production fell to 1.1 million tonnes last month from 1.3 million tonnes in January. In Europe, production fell by 59,000 tonnes to 571,000 tonnes in February and output in South America fell 6.3% on month to 941,000 tonnes, the data showed.
According to the data, global primary aluminium production declined to 5.65 million tonnes in February from 6.24 million tonnes in the previous month. At 2046 IST, the most-active April aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.1% at INR 254 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was up 0.3% at $2,617 per tonne. End
