UPI services disrupted for users across India

NEW DELHI – Unified Payments Interface services appeared to have been disrupted across India with several users taking to social media to complain about the outage. 

 

Services were hit across banks, including for user of ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank, and on various online payment platforms such as Google Pay and Paytm. According to Downdetector, a real-time outage monitoring and alerting website, UPI outage complaints jumped to over 3,000 as of 1945 IST.

 

Users on social media reported that they were stranded at outlets and petrol pumps after UPI transactions failed. 

 

The National Payments Corp. of India, which manages UPI, has not officially confirmed the outage or given any reason behind it. An NPCI spokesperson did not immediately respond to calls by Informist. Informist tried severals payments using UPI. Some transactions, including a few from the above-mentioned banks, were successful, while some were under processing for several minutes, and others did not go through.   End
