NEW DELHI – The finance ministry is likely to hold a meeting with the senior management of public sector banks and a few private sector banks on Apr. 3, a senior government official said on Wednesday. The meeting will focus on reviewing the performance of various government schemes, as well as evaluating the performance of the National Asset Reconstruction Co. Ltd.

The meeting will be chaired by M. Nagaraju, secretary in the Department of Financial Services. Bankers, along with officials from the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, NARCL, and the India Debt Resolution Co. Ltd., among others, are expected to attend, the official told Informist.

The finance ministry reviews the performance of government schemes and NARCL from time to time. The last review meeting of the government's schemes was held on Jan. 15, where Nagaraju took stock of the progress of various financial inclusion schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand Up India, and PM Vishwakarma.

On the other hand, the last review of NARCL took place on Dec. 12, where the department stressed the need to expedite the timelines for resolving accounts under NARCL. At that meeting, it was announced that NARCL had acquired 22 accounts with a total exposure of INR 957.11 billion.  End
