IMD issues heatwave warning for interior Odisha over the weekend

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave conditions in parts of interior Odisha over the weekend. The department said hot day conditions are likely in parts of west Uttar Pradesh till Thursday, and in the Gangetic West Bengal on Friday. Hot and humid weather conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of Gujarat on the weekend, and in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from Friday to Sunday, the department said.
A western disturbance is likely to lead to heavy rainfall or snowfall over parts of Kashmir, heavy rainfall over Jammu, and light to moderate snowfall over Ladakh till Thursday, the weather department said. Hailstorms are also predicted over parts of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, it said.
Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour are likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarkhand, and Punjab till Thursday, the department said. Additionally, heavy rainfall or snowfall is predicted over isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on Friday and Saturday.
Under the same weather system, strong surface winds with speeds of 25-35 km per hour are likely over parts of Punjab till Friday, and over Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from Thursday to Saturday, the weather agency said. Dust-raising winds with speeds of 20-30 km per hour is also seen over parts of west Rajasthan till Thursday.
A trough running over the south central regions of the country is likely to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour over south central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa on Wednesday, and over Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Thursday, the weather bureau said.
No significant change in maxiumum temperatures is seen over the plains of northwest India in the next 24 hours, and a gradual fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius is seen thereafter, the bureau said. In east India, a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is predicted in the next three-four days, after which they could fall by 3-2 degrees Celsius, it said.
The weather department does not see any significant change in maximum temperatures on Gujarat and interior Maharashtra in the next three days, and a rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius therafter. In central India, a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures is likely during the next three days, and no significant change is seen thereafter, the weather department said. End
