NEW DELHI – The Congress party on Tuesday said it will contest Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled later this year, along with other members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. A collective decision would be made by the bloc on the chief ministerial face in the state, the party added.

The announcement follows a meeting of Bihar Congress leaders held at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in New Delhi. The meeting was presided over by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram, and all other senior Congress leaders in Bihar.

Addressing the meeting, Kharge said winds of change were being felt in Bihar. He stated that the people of Bihar were concerned about their welfare, social justice, and progress. Highlighting growing public resentment against unemployment, irregularities in the recruitment process, and paper leaks, he expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party would be ousted and a people-friendly government would be formed in Bihar.

Meanwhile, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram emphasised that the main challenge was from the BJP. He expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc will work together and defeat the BJP-led communal forces in the state.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, AICC Bihar in-charge Allavaru stated that leaders from the state presented their perspectives and a unified strategy was formed. They would confront the BJP and its allies collectively, he said.

When asked if Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal would be the chief ministerial face of the INDIA bloc, Allavaru clarified that the INDIA bloc would discuss seat-sharing and the chief ministerial position during its meeting. "A collective decision would be made on declaring a chief ministerial face. It would be inappropriate to comment on these matters at this time," he said.  End
