IMD sees fresh wet spell over western Himalayan region till Thursday

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh wet spell over the western Himalayan region till Thursday under the influence of a western disturbance. It is likely to cause heavy rainfall or snowfall over parts of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh on Wednesday.

 

The weather system is likely to cause isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the week. It is also likely to cause heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. 

 

Scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds 30-50 km per hour is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, south-central Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Karnataka on Monday. Similar weather conditions are seen over Karnataka till Tuesday and over Kerala till Thursday, IMD said. 

 

The weather agency also said hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail over pockets of coastal Gujarat till Tuesday. Similar conditions are also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on Thursday and Friday. 

 

The maximum temperature over the plains of northwest India is likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next two days and fall thereafter, IMD said. The maximum temperature is likely to rise 4-6 degrees Celsius in Uttar Pradesh, western India and northeast India and by 2-4 degrees Celsius 

over central India and interior Maharashtra during the next 4-5 days. No significant change in maximum temperatures over Gujarat is seen during the next 24 hours and thereafter it is likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius.  End
