NEW DELHI – Over a month after its defeat in the Delhi Assembly election, the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday appointed former minister Saurabh Bhardwaj as the Delhi unit president. The party also appointed former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia as in-charge of Punjab and former minister Gopal Rai as in-charge of Gujarat.
"AAP announces new office bearers across states and UTs (Union Territories), including Manish Sisodia as Punjab Prabhari, Gopal Rai for Gujarat, Sandeep Pathak for Chhattisgarh, and Saurabh Bharadwaj as Delhi State President," the party said in a statement.
Following his appointment as AAP's Delhi unit chief, Bhardwaj said, "We will raise our voice for the rights of those who voted for us and also for those who voted for the BJP for INR 2,500 per month and gas cylinder. We will strengthen the organisation in Delhi. BJP government will have to make provision in the budget for the promises made to the people of Delhi."
On Feb. 8, the AAP was voted out of power after ruling the national capital for a decade. The party won 22 out of 70 seats in Delhi assembly, recording its poorest show in the Delhi Assembly elections since its inception. End
