NEW DELHI – The Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Demands for Grants of the ministries for the next financial year starting Apr. 1, and the Appropriation Bill, 2025. The Lower House is likely to discuss and pass the Finance Bill, 2025 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Demands for Grants is a formal request for funds for spending by each ministry or department of the government. After approval, the demands become part of the Appropriation Bill that allows the government to withdraw money from the Consolidated Fund of India. In the Union Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the government has projected a total expenditure of INR 50.65 trillion for the year.

The exercise is a part of the annual budgetary process. It will conclude in the Lok Sabha next week with the House passing the Finance Bill, which has the tax changes and amendments to legislations, proposed in the Budget.  End
