MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast that multiple weather systems will bring a wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 kilometre per hour over east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha through Saturday. Additionally, some areas within these regions may also experience hailstorms till Saturday.

Heavy rainfall is also predicted over parts of Jharkhand and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha on Friday, the department said.

According to the weather bureau, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam will bring scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall in Arunachal Pradesh, along with thunderstorm and lightning over the next five days. Some areas in Arunachal Pradesh may also experience heavy rainfall through Saturday.

Additionally, a wet spell with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 km per hour is expected to affect Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days, the agency said.

Under the influence of multiple troughs over south India, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 km per hour is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshwadeep, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and interior Karnataka in the next five days, the weather office said.

A trough is a line or curve along which the atmospheric pressure is minimum. Pressure increases on both sides of the line or curve.

It also predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu till Saturday and over parts of Kerala and Mahe till Sunday. Additionally, hailstorm is likely over parts of Telangana till Saturday, the weather agency said.

The weather department does not see any likelihood of a heat wave over any part of the country in the next four-five days. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to continue over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday, and over Konkan, Goa, and the coastal areas of Gujarat from Saturday to Monday, IMD added.  End
