Global Feb primary aluminium output down 9.5% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium declined to 5.65 million tonnes in February from 6.24 million tonnes in the previous month, data from the International Aluminium Institute showed. On an annual basis, production fell 0.9% from 5.70 million tonnes.
Global daily average aluminium production in February was 201,600 tonnes, up from 201,100 tonnes in January. Aluminium production in China fell by 353,000 tonnes from a month ago to 3.37 million tonnes in February, the data showed. The country accounts for nearly 60% of the metal's global production. Daily average aluminium production in China rose to 120,357 tonnes in February from 120,097 tonnes in January.
In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 374,000 tonnes in February from 411,000 tonnes a month ago. In Africa, the output in February fell by 14,000 tonnes to 123,000 tonnes.
In the Gulf Cooperation Council, production declined by 51,000 tonnes to 490,000 tonnes in February. Production of primary aluminium in Europe, including Russia, fell to 537,000 tonnes in February from 597,000 tonnes in the previous month. Output of the metal in North America declined by 33,000 tonnes to 304,000 tonnes in February and production in South America fell by 12,000 tonnes to 119,000 tonnes.
Global alumina production in January fell 0.2% on month to 12.83 million tonnes, as per the latest available data. At 1949 IST, the three-month aluminium futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was steady at $2,670.5 per tonne. End
