EPFO adds net 1.79 mln subscribers in Jan, up 11.7% on year

NEW DELHI – The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation net added 1.79 million subscribers in January, up 11.7% on year and up 11.5% compared with December, according to data released by the labour ministry Thursday. Of the net subscribers added in January, around 823,000 came under the social security cover of the EPFO for the first time, 1.9% higher than a year ago.
"This growth in new subscribers can be attributed to growing employment opportunities, increased awareness of employee benefits, and EPFO's successful outreach programmes," the ministry said.
Of the new members added in January, 57.1% were in the age group of 18-25. This was 3.1% higher than seen in January 2024. The first-time members included around 217,000 females, up 6% on year.
The top five states constituted around 59.98% of net payroll addition, adding a total around 1.07 million net payroll during the month. Maharashtra added 22.8% of the total net members in January.
Of the total net membership, around 39.9% addition was from expert services consisting of manpower suppliers, normal contractors, security services, and miscellaneous activities, the labour ministry said. The EPFO payroll data is provisional and subject to revisions. End
