MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said Thursday a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm is likely over many parts of south peninsular India from Friday to Sunday. These weather conditions are caused by the trough or wind discontinuity from the cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood to north interior Karnataka in lower tropospheric levels.

On Friday and Saturday, hailstorms are likely over parts of Telangana, IMD said. Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty wind with speed of 30-50 km per hour is also likely over Telangana during the next five days.

A western disturbance as a trough in lower and middle tropospheric levels along with an upper air circulation over southwest Rajasthan is likely to cause light or moderate rainfall over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh during this week. The rainfall is also accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 km per hour.

Under the influence of several weather systems, scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 km per hour is likely over gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Sunday, the weather department said.

Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh during this week. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Sikkim during the weekend.

A cyclonic circulation lying over Assam and its neighbourhood is likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh till Sunday, with isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall predicted over some parts of the state on Friday and Saturday, the agency said. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over south Assam till Friday, it said.

The Meteorological department does not see a likelihood of a heat wave over any part of the country for the next four-five days. Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over pockets of coastal Gujarat from Saturday to Monday and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Friday, it said.  End
