Parliament adjourned till 1400 IST amid DMK's protest over delimitation

NEW DELHI - The proceedings of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 1400 IST amid protest by the members of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam demanding a fair delimitation exercise to ensure that Tamil Nadu does not see a fall in the number of its lawmakers in Parliament.
The DMK members wore t-shirts reading "Fair Delimitation, Tamil Nadu will Fight! Tamil Nadu will win". As the Rajya Sabha proceedings commenced for the day, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the house till 1200 IST. Dhankhar called a meeting of floor leaders meeting at 1130 IST. The upper house was then adjourned till 1215 IST and after that till 1400 IST.
During the meeting with floor leaders, DMK leader Tiruchi Siva told the chairman that there was nothing wrong in wearing the t-shirts with slogans and referred to the Bharatiya Janata Party members saying that the ruling party leaders often come to the house with lotus symbol and raise slogans.
The chairman proposed to formulate rules for conduct of members in the house.
The Lok Sabha was also adjourned till 1400 IST. In the Lower House, apart from the DMK, the members of other opposition parties also wore t-shirts demanding fair delimitation exercise.
DMK member M. Mohamed Abdulla said that Tamil Nadu and other southern states will be affected severely after the delimitation exercise. The member raised apprehension that the post delimitation, Tamil Nadu's tally will come down to 31 from 39, and Kerala's representation would go down to 12 from 20 seats. He said that the party wants that Tamil Nadu's representation should remain equivalent to currrtent 7.18%. End
