NEW DELHI - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs Wednesday approved construction of a 29.22-kilometre six-lane access controlled greenfield national highway connecting Pagote, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, to Chowk on Mumbai-Pune Highway, an official release said. The project will be developed on build, operate, and transfer mode at INR 45.01 billion.
From JNPA Port, which is commonly known as National Highway 348, the project will also connect the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai-Goa National Highway. "With increasing container volume in JNPA port and the development of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, a need was identified for augmenting national highway connectivity in the region," the statement said.
Large container trucks could move with relative ease and high speed due to the two tunnels passing through Sahayadri, helping commercial vehicles avoid the tricky ghat sections, it said. End
