India gets 3% above normal rain at 6.8 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 6.8 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 3% above the normal of 6.6 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two recorded above-average rainfall and two recorded below-normal rainfall during the period.
East and northeast India received 34% above-average rain at 16.3 millimetres for the week, according to the data. Northwest India got 5% below normal rainfall at 10.5 millimetres. South peninsular India received 54% above-normal rainfall at 4.9 millimetres. Central India got 99% below-average rainfall against the normal of 1.7 millimetres, with 0.1 millimetre of rainfall recorded only in west Madhya Pradesh, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, six regions received 'large excess' rainfall during the week, while four regions received 'excess' rain, according to the data. Four regions got normal rainfall, while three subdivisions saw deficient rainfall during the week. Nine subdivisions got 'large deficient' rainfall and 10 subdivisions did not get rainfall, the data showed.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 14.2 millimetres of rainfall, 21% below the normal of 17.9 millimetres for the period. End
