IMD sees thunderstorms, hailstorms over east, central India till Sat

MUMBAI – Under the influence of several weather systems, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour is likely over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Vidarbha till Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said.
Isolated hailstorms are also predicted over east Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Friday, over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha from Thursday to Saturday, over Bihar and Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday, and over Jharkhand on Thursday and Friday, IMD said.
Under the influence of the same weather systems, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-60 km per hour is seen over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Saturday, the weather agency said.
A cyclonic circulation lying over Assam and its neighbourhood is likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Sunday, with isolated rainfall or snowfall predicted over some parts of the state on Friday and Saturday, the agency said.
A wet spell accomapanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour is seen over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in the next five days, the weather department said. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday, the department said.
Under the influence of a western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan, and a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km per hour is seen over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh till Saturday, the weather bureau said.
The Met department does not see a likelihood of a heat wave over any parts of the country for the next four-five days. Hot and humid conditions are very likley to prevail over parts of coastal Gujarat on Tuesday and on the weekend, and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and interior Karnataka till Thursday, it said.
