India's natural gas import bill for Feb rises 8.3% on low output

MUMBAI – India's natural gas import bill for February rose 8.3% on year to $1.3 billion due to lower production, the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell said in a report. For Apr-Feb, the import bill was up 16.4% on year at $14.2 billion, the data showed.
Gas imports in February rose 7.3% on year to 3,077 million standard cubic metres. The country imported 34,329 million standard cubic metres of natural gas during Apr-Feb, 19.4% higher on year, the data showed.
Domestic natural gas production fell 6.7% on year to 2,749 mscm in February, below the target of 3,132 mscm, according to the data. For Apr-Feb, domestic natural gas production fell 0.5% on year to 33,125 mscm, against the target of 36,152, the data showed.
Lower domestic output of gas resulted in higher import dependency. During Apr-Feb, the import dependency rose to 53.2% from 49.8% in the year-ago period, and in February it rose to 51.3% from 46.8% in the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, the country's consumption of natural gas in February rose 0.6% on year to 5,789 mscm. The cumulative consumption for Apr-Feb rose 9.1% on year to 66,975 mscm, the data showed. End
