IMD sees heatwave in Odisha, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Telangana on Mon

MUMBAI – Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue in parts of interior Odisha on Monday, and heatwave conditions are seen in isolated pockets for the subseqent two days, the India Meterologoical Department said. Heatwave conditions are likely to abate from the rest of east India from Tuesday, the department said. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions could persist in parts of Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and north Telangana on Monday, IMD said.

 

The department also sees hot and humid conditions continuing over parts of coastal Gujarat in the next five days, over Konkan and Goa till Tuesday, and over north interior Karnataka till Wednesday.

 

A cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Assam and its neighbourhood is likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kilometre per hour over Arunachal Pradesh over the next seven days, along with heavy rainfall or snowfall over parts of the state on Tuesday, IMD said.

 

Under the same weather system, isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in the next seven days, the weather agency said.

 

A trough running from north Chattisgarh to Vidarbha is likely to cause a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km per hour over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha on Monday, the agency said. Hailstorms over parts of the Gangetic West Bengal are also likely on Monday, it said.

 

A trough is a line or curve along which the atmospheric pressure is minimum. Pressure increases on both sides of the line or curve.  

Under the influence of a trough and wind confluence over east India, a wet spell accampanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is seen over east central India from Wednesday to Sunday, with peak activity on Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said. Hailstorms are also predicted over parts of the Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha on Thursday and Friday, IMD said.

 

A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next four-five days, the weather department said. No significant change in maximum temperatures is seen over east India in the next three days, and a fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days, it said. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country in the next three-four days, IMD said.  End
