Telangana, Goa detail FY26 Budget dates; 3 states yet to announce dates

NEW DELHI – Telangana and Goa are set to unveil their Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) on Mar. 19 and Mar. 26, respectively. Only three more states – Punjab, Sikkim, and Tripura – are now left to announce the date for the presentation of their Budget. Delhi, which is a Union territory with legislature, has also not announced the date for presenting the FY26 Budget.
Telangana's market borrowing target for FY26 will be keenly watched as the Congress government, which came to power in the state in December 2023, had projected a record market borrowing of INR 571.12 billion for the current fiscal year. The state has so far raised INR 507.07 billion from the bond market.
Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, who also holds the finance portfolio, had pegged the state's fiscal deficit at 3.0% of the Gross State Domestic Product in the Budget for FY25. The state that ended FY23 with a fiscal deficit of 2.5% of GSDP had projected it to be 3.4% of GSDP in the revised estimate for FY24.
In Goa, the fiscal deficit consolidation efforts will be the highlight. The state's FY25 Budget had projected a significant fiscal consolidation of 130 basis points from 3.8% of GSDP in the revised estimate for FY24.
So far, 19 states have presented their Budget for the next fiscal year. The next state to present its FY26 Budget is Tamil Nadu on Friday, followed by Haryana and Himachal Pradesh on Monday. End
