IMD issues red alert for heat wave in Gujarat, parts of Rajasthan Thu

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued red alert for heat wave conditions over Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan Thursday. Heave wave conditions are also likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh till Friday, Odisha till Monday, Jharkhand from Friday to Monday and gangetic West Bengal from Saturday to Monday, it said. 

 

Warm night conditions very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Odisha during the weekend, the weather department said.

 

No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over plains of northwest India during the next 24 hours and fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius thereafter. A gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius is likely over many parts of west India during the next four to five days, the bureau said.

 

Under the influence of cyclonic circulations over southwest Rajasthan at lower tropospheric levels, widespread moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning are likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh during till Sunday. Similar weather is likely over Uttarakhand till Sunday and decrease in intensity thereafter, the weather agency said.

 

A cyclonic circulation lies over east Bangladesh and a trough in westerly runs roughly along lower tropospheric levels. Fairly widespread moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning are likely over Arunachal Pradesh and scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Monday.  End
