India gets 68% below normal rain at 2.1 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 2.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 68% below the normal of 6.6 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two recorded below-average rainfall, one recorded above normal rainfall, and one did not get any rainfall during the week.
East and northeast India received 75% below-average rains at 2.6 millimetres for the week, while northwest India got 76% below normal rainfall at 2.7 millimetres, according to the data. South peninsular India received 8% above-normal rainfall at 4.4 milimetres. Central India did not get any rainfall against the normal of 2.3 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, only one region received 'large excess' rainfall during the week, while two regions received 'excess' rains, the data showed. None of the regions got normal rainfall, while two subdivisions saw deficient rainfall during the week. Ten subdivisions got 'large deficient' rainfall and 21 subdivisions did not get rainfall, according to the data.
Since Mar. 1, India has received 7.4 millimetres of rainfall, 34% below the normal of 11.3 millimetres for the period. End
