NEW DELHI – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. will continue to monetise their land and building assets which they don't require, and the government does not plan to privatise them, Minister of State for Communication and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Wednesday.

Since 2019, the government-owned telecom companies have earned INR 129.85 billion from monetising assets till January, and this includes INR 45.23 billion from sale of non-core assets and INR 84.62 billion from core assets, Sekhar said in the Lok Sabha. BSNL has earned INR 105.92 billion and MTNL INR 23.93 billion, according to Sekhar.

"Monetisation of assets is being done as per approved policy of the government and its impact on the PSUs (public sector units) is being monitored closely," Sekhar said.  End
