IMD forecasts severe heat wave over Gujarat, Rajasthan till Wednesday

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department expects severe heat wave over Gujarat and southwest Rajasthan on Tuesday and Wednesday, heat wave over Vidarbha on Thursday and Friday, and over Odisha from Thursday to Saturday. The weather bureau also expects heat wave conditions over parts of Konkan on Tuesday.
A heat wave occurs when temperatures reach at least 40 degrees Celsius or more in the plains, 37 degrees Celsius or more in coastal regions, and at least 30 degrees Celsius in hilly regions.
Under the influence of easterly wave activity, scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds is expected over Kerala and Mahe on Tuesday, the weather bureau said. It sees heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Wednesday and over Kerala and Mahe on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather agency expects fairly widespread moderate rainfall or snowfall, accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh till Sunday. Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall, or snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Uttarakhand from Wednesday to Sunday, it said.
Light to moderate rainfall is also expected over parts of Punjab from Wednesday to Saturday, and over Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from Thursday to Saturday. Heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Arunachal Pradesh till Monday and over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday, the weather bureau said.
The weather bureau sees a gradual rise in maximum temperatures over Central India, Maharashtra, and East India in the next three to four days. No change in maximum temperatures is likely over the rest of the country, the weather bureau said. End
