NEW DELHI – The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved wheat procurement at the minimum support price of INR 2,425 per 100 kg for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), as announced by the Centre. The state will purchase wheat from Mar. 17 to Jun. 15, according to a cabinet briefing on Monday.

About 6,500 purchase centres have been set up across the state by eight agencies, including the state food and civil supplies department, media reports quoted Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna as saying.

After Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh announced a bonus over the Centre-set minimum support price, there was speculation on whether Uttar Pradesh would also do the same. The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a bonus of INR 175 and Rajasthan INR 150 over and above the minimum support price of INR 2,425 per 100 kg.

The Centre expects farmers across India to harvest a record wheat crop of 115.4 million tonnes in 2024-25 (Jul-Jun), according to the second advance estimate released Monday. Last year, wheat output stood at 113.2 million tonnes.  End
