Govt seeks net INR 514.63 bln in 2nd batch of supplementary demands for FY25

NEW DELHI - The government has sought Parliament's approval to spend net additional INR 514.63 billion in the second batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the current fiscal year ending Mar. 31, according to the documents tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Parliament had allowed net extra spending of INR 441.43 billion in the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants in December.  

 

On gross basis, the government has sought permission for additional spending of INR 6.79 trillion in the second batch, out of which, INR 6.27 trillion will be met from enhanced receipts/recoveries of the ministries and departments, the finance ministry said in the tabled documents. In December, the government had asked Parliament's nod to spend gross INR 877.63 billion extra.

 

Out of the extra INR 514.73 billion sought by the government in the second batch, INR 141 billion is for the fertilisers department and INR 134.79 for the payment of pension of the government employees. Other major spending heads include INR 21.86 billion for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, INR 53.22 billion for the telecommunication department, and INR 92.20 billion for the defence ministry. 

 

The government has also earmarked INR 37.22 billion for Jammu & Kashmir under 'Central Assistance to Union Territories' and another INR 10 billion for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

 

In the Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), the government cut the estimate for total expenditure in FY25 to INR 47.17 trillion from INR 48.21 trillion. Till Januray, the government had spent INR 35.70 trillion, according to the latest data available with the Controller General of Accounts.   End
