Indians lost INR 1.07 bln in internet, card, digital payments frauds in Apr-Dec

NEW DELHI – Indians lost INR 1.07 billion to internet, card, and digital payments frauds between April and December, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told Parliament on Monday. The public had lost INR 1.77 billion in such frauds in the entire 2023-24 (Apr-Mar).
Commercial banks in the country and all India financial institutions reported 13,384 cases of frauds involving amounts of INR 100,000 and above, Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. The public has lost INR 6.26 billion in internet, card, and digital payments fruads in the last 10 years.
"To spread awareness against cyber-crimes, the government has been taking various initiatives from time to time," Chaudhary said. "These, inter alia, includes cyber safety tips through social media accounts, publishing of handbook for adolescents/students, publishing of ‘Information Security Best Practices' for the benefit of government officials, organizing cyber safety and security awareness weeks in association with States/Union Territories etc." End
